Fast and Furious
Just finished watching Fast 5. Now I want to go drive… fast. I love these Fast and Furious series. The first one got me hooked. One line in the movie stuck with me; “I live my life a quarter mile at a time and for those 10 seconds or less, i’m free.” I like that. The first move “The Fast and the Furious” came out in June of 2001. Why would I remember that? It was the last movie I saw with my brother. Trent Holbert, Dustin Holbert, Allen Wash and Mathew Gullion. Saw it in Lexington. And when it was over we tore up the road like we were in the movie or something. Dustin taught me how to drive. Literally. When we were young and illegal, he’d take me out at night in my dad’s truck and teach me. Then he taught me to work on them. Then he taught me to race them. And when I was 16 he’d take me out at night (illegally) and we’d race. We found out where the quarter mile mark is on Old New Liberty Road. From 127 to the first mail box. But he’d always take suicide so i wouldn’t be in as much danger. He taught me a lot about handling and manipulation. Double clutching and speed shifting. We’d go buy bottles of alcohol from Amer-stop and put in our gas tanks. I still don’t know how we didn’t fry our piston rings lol. I remember following him down Sparta road running close to 130 mph. My heart was in my throat. But I stayed with him. I guess watching this movie tonight and looking back over the years… 10 years ago when we sat together watching the first one, and thinking about this stuff he really does remind me of “Dom” the lead character. Big, strong, fast and furious. Amazing behind the wheel. I could tell story after story of some of the stuff he pulled off behind the wheel. Some you’d never believe. But I remember. I’ll always remember. 10 years ago today though he pulled off his last, not so death defying maneuver. I’ve replayed over and over. And even though I didn’t see it, I can see it clearly. I knew his driving. I can tell you frame by frame exactly what he did and how he reacted. You’d have to moving pretty fast to roll six times. But it was the only way he knew how to drive. Fast and Furious.
