Doing the right thing in the wrong way
Uzzah didn’t have to die. God commanded no one to ever touch the Ark of the Covenant or they’d die. The priests were to carry it using poles. Subsequently the Philistines stole the ark and carried it away in a cart. Even the ungodly knew better. However when king David was finally able to rescue the ark and bring it home, he decided to build a “new cart” and use the Philistines idea of ark transport. As they were riding along, one of the animals got spooked and the cart begins to tip. Uzzah, a man who just wanted to help, put out his hands to catch it…touched it and died at the hand of God’s own word.
Compromise kills. David then learned this lesson and decided to carry it the way God said to. But we’re still doing this today. We know what God says but instead believe that the ends always justify the means. Or in other words, our good intentions will allow God to overlook our disobedience. I se this all the time. Men who aspire to fill the office of pastor, when they are not fit or qualified to hold such a position, but will neglect the biblical standards in light of “their good intention.” Christian men and women who will date and or marry unbelievers when the bible explicitly forbids this. “But i love him” or “I’ll win him over”, seems to be justifiable for ignoring God’s command. Men and women are pro-life….until the condom breaks and she gets pregnant. Then we’ll look for a “new cart:. How can we get around what God said?
So little do we consider, there are lives at stake when we deviate from God’s specific instructions. First and foremost, your own. As soon as you step out of God’s will and go against His unchanging word, you align yourself for His judgement. But then, there are those innocent people you will undoubtedly destroy along the way. Those poor “Uzzahs” who stumble and fall at your witness. All for the sake of you using your “new cart”. Isn’t God’s word good enough? Didn’t God say not to touch it? He didn’t say to not look at pornography all the time. No, He said not to look, not to touch, not even to speak of such shameful things in private. To RUN from youthful lusts. He didn’t say little white lies are ok as long as it doesn’t hurt others. No, He said do not lie. You cannot sidestep God’s instructions and expect His blessings.
