1. Proverbs 18:21 HCSB Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

Proverbs 18:21 is a powerful verse. I’m sick of the way I hear people, actually Christian people talk and text today. Christians don’t cuss, right? Wrong. Except now we do it in code so its not so readily identifiable. To ‘cuss’ is to actually curse something with words. It is an act of verbal condemnation. Something the Bible forbids believers to do because vengeance belongs to the Lord and no one else. But today you read things like “HML” or hate my life. Do you? God can take care of that. Or the ever popular “FML”. Now youre just hiding your vulgarity because what you’re really saying is “Fu*k my life”. Or for those who try to justify it by saying the ‘f’ stands for freak. Freak is implying th same connotation. So what if God really decided to ‘f’ your life. Its on the same level ‘God Damn it’. See technically we could argue that’s not taking th Lords name in vain. No, its asking God to curse something for you. How vulgar! You want God to damn something for you or ‘f’ your life up? He will. There’s the power of life AND death in the tongue.

Or saying “OMG”. Now you just took the third commandments and broke it. You’re (via texting code) taking the Lord’s name in vain and committing blasphemy. “But I mean ‘oh my gosh’ “. Cool… bc when I read it, I read ‘God’ and now I have a blasphemous term in my head and you’ve become a stumbling block. Oh, and ‘gosh’ is yet another subtle substitute for the real word. You’d been stoned to death for these acts at one point in history.

Why are we so easily swayed to look and talk like the rest of the world? Why do we hide behind rationalization? ‘Ef’ is just an abbreviated sound referring to the ‘f’ word.

Life or death. You to choose carefully because you WILL eat the fruit of one or the other.

This has been yet another episode of Bro. Trent’s soap box hour. Tune in next week when i solve the mystery of “what I say vs what I do; or will the real Pharisee please stand up.”
